Will Clemson face former NFL preseason players vs. LSU? Louisiana court makes decision.

CLEMSON — The last remaining mystery of the long buildup to Week 1 has been solved — almost.

There’s been plenty of uncertainty this offseason for Clemson football leading up to the season opener against No. 11 LSU Sept. 5. One of those questions was answered this week when Christopher Vizzina was named the starting quarterback on Sept. 1.

Another remained unsolved with just two days until kickoff: Will Clemson have to go against former NFL preseason players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris in Baton Rouge?

The answer became clearer when a Louisiana judge granted a temporary injunction to the two players and other plaintiffs in the case, making them eligible to play until the case is settled.

LSU ultimately chose to not roster the two players this week, meaning they won’t be active against Clemson.

The court ruling included language that the NCAA, SEC and LSU are enjoined from taking action preventing the players from competing. LSU may be forced to roster Wright and Harris at the risk of legal penalty.

Wright after the ruling said that he plans to play on Saturday. Harris said he expects to be rostered on Friday.

Attorneys representing the SEC said they plan to file an appeal as soon as possible.

LSU landed commitments from former Ole Miss players Wright and Harris, who were granted eligibility by a Louisiana court Aug. 19 after being waived by the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints. The SEC then implemented a ban on pro players with strict penalties.
